I called the Hackettstown PO and spoke to a very pleasant gentleman named Mike. I told him that it was a mailing tube containing a birthday gift for a beloved uncle who served during World War Two.
Yet, for almost two months we have been getting very important mail for her, stock and financial letters, packages from overseas, as well as magazines and other things. We have called and complained several times, gone there in person, and she has done the same. No difference. We still get her letters every single day, and then we have to cross out the address (or they just keep delivering it to us), write MOVED in big letters, then take it right back out to the mail box, and then hopefully it finally gets to her. It's not a job we should have to do every single day, it's something the post office should be doing. They did not bother to return my most recent call.
We've had to move many times, around the country due to work. This is definitely the worst post office we've had to deal with. The prior resident where we live did her due diligence and set up her notification that she was moving, to get her mail forwarded. She is elderly.
Wait times can be extremely long and unnecessary. There will be plenty of people working there, but they will only have 1 out of 3 lanes open. I've waited over 20 minutes there to simply drop off a package multiple times. Staff is nice and helpful though.
Mike's solution was this; he would hand deliver the package to the correct address in time for the birthday celebration. Not only that but Mike braved torrential rains and "gloom of night" in attempting to make this delivery. The package was delivered in plenty of time by hand! At a time when there seems to be nothing but bad news, violence, decisiveness and mistrust in the country and across theWorld, it was extremely heartening to come across a person with such a huge heart. Thank you Mike!
I sell items on ebay and mail packages from the Hackettstown PO - I could not be happier with their service. They are always pleasant, courteous and helpful. My mail carrier Mike is a gem - best mail delivery guy since living here since 2003. I have tried UPS and they hire the worst staff. So 5 starts for the Grand Ave Post Office
From out of state. Wanted to buy a box and tape and mail a package. Was successful. Only suggestion would be to send some ppl to the 07882 post office in Washington and teach the staff there how to do the same.
I sent a package to the wrong address. I should have sent it to Stanhope(07874) but used the incorrect address and sent it to Hackettstown (07840) instead. I received a notification that my package was being temporarily held at the Hackettstown Post Office and could not be delivered
There's also a large package box in our cluster for any residents of this townhouse community that get large packages. They put a key to it in your slot if you have something big, so you can retrieve it. The thing is always left hanging open with the key in it, even right after the postman has just delivered the mail and nobody else has been near it. On Saturday we had a key in our slot, meaning something was waiting in the larger box below, but as usual it was just hanging open and there was no package for us. So a neighbor or someone else probably got it.
